I often share pictures of the elk, deer, coyotes, and wild turkeys I see from my office window or on my evening walks. I am fortunate to be surrounded by such wonderful opportunities. Recently, on one of those walks, it wasn’t the mountain grandeur or the animals I chanced upon that drew my attention. It was the small things. A fuzzy caterpillar inched across the path. A delicate wildflower had gone to seed. Hummingbirds gathered at my feeder before their fall migration, and the last of the summer flowers bloomed.
I work hard to choose the right words so readers will see the beauty of the mountains or the starkness of Colorado’s Eastern Plains. Perhaps drawing a reader’s attention to one of those small things will make the big things complete.
